The MV Vertical Impactor in Asphalt Milling recovery
In recent years, the recovery of asphalt milling (RAP) has become increasingly important in the road construction sector. As highlighted in a previous article on our blog, reusing RAP represents a strategic opportunity both for environmental sustainability and for optimizing production costs. However, increasing the percentage of recycled material largely depends on the quality of the technological treatment applied.
In asphalt milling recovery, the main challenge is not only reducing the material size but also ensuring the quality of the recovered aggregate. Traditional high-impact crushing solutions often:
excessively crush the particles
alter the particle size distribution
leave residual bitumen adhered to the aggregates
These factors limit the actual reuse of the material in new production cycles. To address these issues, Baioni has developed the MV vertical-shaft-impactor.
Unlike traditional hammer mills, the MV does not crush the material. Instead, it improves particle shape and cleans the material, preserving its granulometry and separating the surface bitumen from the aggregates.
For RAP treatment, the MV has been further developed with:
- a closed rotor
- hammers specifically designed for asphalt milling
This configuration creates a continuous movement of the material inside the crushing chamber. The combined action of acceleration, tumbling, and controlled particle friction removes surface bitumen without crushing the aggregates.
The result is a clean, well-shaped aggregate with stable particle size characteristics, ready for reuse.
Using the MV shape corrector in asphalt milling recovery provides concrete benefits:
- higher percentage of RAP reusable in production
- consistent material quality
- reduced waste and disposal costs
- easy integration into existing plants
This solution allows operators to improve plant performance without overhauling the production setup.
Recovering asphalt milling is not only a sustainable choice, but also a technological challenge.
With the MV shape corrector, Baioni transforms the principles of circular economy into real, productive plants, capable of valorizing recovered material without compromising performance.
