Rod mills: operation and use

How and why produce quality sand

Baioni offers a wide selection of crushers and granulators for aggregates processing. Whether the material to be processed is medium-soft like coal, coarse materials like limestone, potassium, phosphate or hard and abrasive like dolomite or sandstone, Baioni has the expertise to get the job done. When we consider a machine such as a rod mill, we know that we can rely on Baioni because the production of these machines has several installations now been tested over time.

The minimal wear, the absence of maintenance and durability make this equipment unparalleled in the production of sand, but also of coarser materials. Hence, rod mills, in addition to achieving excellent quality calibrated sand, they are especially useful if you are running a low tonnage operation and looking for a coarse product.

Over time, different types of mills have been developed to reduce the size of materials. The choice of the mill in relation to the material to be crushed has to be made carefully and must be taken taking into account different variables such as the desired production, purpose of the product, future development of the plant and above all the type of material.

Generally all types of mills use mechanical forces and friction in the grinding process. A mill model that mainly uses mechanical forces (crushing) is the bar mill.
This machine aims to reduce the material for sand production. The operation of the bar mill is based on a grinding process, it has a cylindrical shape (drum) and works horizontally.

Bulk steel bars are loaded and placed inside the rotating drum. These bars move with the rotation of the drum, starting the grinding process. The collisions that are created with the bars during the rolling phase crush the mineral or aggregate into finer particles.

Baioni rod mills are available in different diameters to meet every customer’s needs. Grinding, primarily by friction, they require relatively low power levels to function. They can operate on both wet applications, for maximum product calibration, and dry applications for higher productions; in fact, dry grinding, without adding water, is the most used process when a sand with filler is desired, ideal for achieving high productions.

Main features:
– Possibility of grinding any type of material even if humid or wet to the full advantage of flexibility.
– Easy adjustment of the grain size of the product, in dry cycles, through the simple variation of the material flow and bars’ load. On this application, the machine performs the processing of a drum washer machine and an impact crusher at the same time, guaranteeing the cleaning of the material even in the presence of large quantities of clay.
– Easy adjustment of the particle size, in wet cycles, by varying the flow rate of the material and water.
– Consistency of characteristics and regular polyhedricity of the output material.
